2013 to Current

In January while camping in Sarasota, Florida we visited the Henry Ford - Thomas Edison Florida homes.  They were great friends and their homes were next door to each other.

Edison home:

Ford home and views
We've seen lots of alligators, but the Myakka River near Sarasota, Florida is different.  They are huge and many.  The first one was in that same place nearly everyday.  The light spot to the right is the kayak/canoe launch spot for the lake.  We decided we'd pass on kayaking the river or the lake, but many did launch and return their kayaks at this spot with the gator resting nearby.
Can you see the little ones hitching a ride?
A heron and a Roseate Spoonbill.

We've seen Caracara in Texas, but this was our first in Florida.

The Corps of Engineers RV park near Moore Haven, Florida on the Tampa-Stewart canal.

The Mohawk River/Erie Canal got up over the wall about two feet at the Ilion Marina and Campground in Ilion, New York.  We had to move for a few hours, but the boaters had a bad time.  The boaters were stranded for about a month because the canal was closed going east and west.  The good part is that we have some new friends from the experience.  If you enlarge the first picture and focus in just to the right and under the metal roof you will see a new friend carrying his wife from their boat to dry ground.

Our boating friends finally got to head off to their next adventure.

2012 Highlights

Marathon is our favorite place in the Keys in Florida, about halfway up the Keys.  While we were loading our kayaks one day his fellow came up to watch.
Kayaking in the mangroves.

Key West

Fishermen near 7 Mile Bridge
Lunch in Key Largo
When visiting Everglades National Park we were warned that Black Vultures sometimes eat the rubber around car windshields.  They had some tarps for visitors to use, but they had all been taken when we got there.  A ranger told us to park in the sun and we probably wouldn't have a problem.   We did and didn't have a problem.  The pictures are of Black Vultures, Anhinga, Aligators, a Green Heron and lastly the resident Crocodile. None were concerned about our presence.
And a Wood Stork
We were at Guanabanas Restaurant in Jupiter, Florida one day when everyone one at a table close by jumped and screamed.  It turned out that a squirrel had fallen out of a tree overhead and landed on their table.
There's a Turtle Hospital near Jupiter where I took this picture through a window of technicians repairing a damaged shell.
An Osprey nest off the Loxahatchee River in Jupiter
The Mississippi Gulf Coast near Biloxi.
We were at Guapo's Restaurant near DC and our daughter ordered a large margarita.  As a joke I ordered a large Corona.  The waiter brought me one.

We ran across this RV in Herkimer, New York
We spent a week in Long Lake, New York and really enjoyed that little town.

In October we traded the trusty Newmar Mountain Aire motor home for our toy hauler.
Christmas had us back in Key Largo, Florida
