December 2013

Spanish Fort, Alabama

We spent a few nights at the Meaher State Park in Spanish Fort, on the north shore of Mobile Bay.  I was a bit surprised to see alligators.

Colorful skies over the I-10 Bridge to Mobile

There were some white pelicans chasing cormorant and successfully stealing some of their catch.

We've been in several Bass Pro Shops.  But this was the first with a restaurant/bar.  It was pretty neat and good food.

Carabelle, FL

Ho-Hum RV Park in Carabelle, FL is a bi-annual stop for us.  Some of the sites are within feet of the shallow ocean waters here and the sunrise and sunset are both great because being in the panhandle we get both on the water.

The park is covered with gravel.  Our site was outlined in little ridges of gravel and I did my best to do as little damage to the work as I could getting into our spot.  After we got settled a man came out with a little red wagon with a roll of string, some stakes, a rake and tape measure.  He measured the distances from the undamaged ridges of gravel and then ran some string along the ridges I damaged and carefully built the fragile site dividers again.  With so many arriving and leaving daily he has some job security.

Palm Beach, FL

We took a boat tour from Riviera Beach across the inlet to Palm Beach Island and heard about 10-50+ million dollar homes, some of which were winter homes.  We didn't get many pictures of the homes, but we did get a couple of the boats.

For those needing directions (not I) there was an information tree.

We visited Whitehall, the estate built for Mr. Henry Flagler's wife on Palm Beach.  Mr. Flagler built the original Florida railroad that brought goods and people to new areas of Florida.

Check out the ceilings

There were some of the most unique clocks that I've ever seen.

October 2013

Airville, PA

In October we visited an interesting area of Pennsylvania near where the Susquehanna River empties into Chesapeake Bay.  We visited the Indian Steps Museum established about a 10 years ago by a local attorney/hunter.  The name comes from steps constructed into the steep banks of the river by American Indians as long as 10,000 years ago.

We attended the Annapolis Boat Show and it was a little chilly
