Current - Stowe Vermont Auto Show and Ski Resort

Yesterday we drove to Stowe, Vermont for their car show and check out the ski resort.  Advertising for the show predicted 800 cars in the show and there were many.  But our attendance towards the middle of the second day still had a steady stream of show cars coming, even when we were leaving.  So we didn't see them all.  Another factor was that it had rained most of the previous day and the field was muddy.  We didn't even park our truck in the designated parking area because of the mud.  We parked in a yard (with the owners permission) nearby.

As I said, there were quite a few cars, probably more than I've ever seen at a show.

As we were entering this 1947 Flexible Motorhome was being pulled out of a muddy area by a bulldozer.

There was an area near the beginning of displays where cars with people in historic dress.

I had a 66' Plymouth Sport Fury and would have loved to have found one here, but this was as close as I could come.

2009 Highlights

In 2009 we explored Texas and New Mexico and some of Oklahoma on the way back east.  It doesn't sound like much, but ...

The Kings Ranch is 825,000 acres, essentially all of the land between Corpus Christi and Brownsville on the Gulf Coast of Texas.

Hurricane Ike had visited Boliver Island the fall before our visit.

We got up early one morning to help send off the South Texas Trail Riders from Corpus Christi to San Antonio.

We saw a lot of border fence in South Texas.  It mostly looked like this.

Bandera, TX is billed as the Cowboy Capitol, and it is pretty neat.  On Sunday many of the local ranchers come to town on horseback.

In December we participated in the annual wreath Laying sponsored by Wreaths Across America in Arlington Cemetery.  We've very often visited the cemetery.  But this time was special.

We had pretty nice weather and were staying at Shenandoah Crossing Resort in Gordonsville, VA.  We ended up staying nearly a week longer than we anticipated because we got 30 inches of snow one night and it took nearly a week for the resort to get the roads so we could leave.  The 4 wheel drive came in handy.
